Our accompaniment lessons give students the opportunity to play with another musician in a relaxed and supportive environment. Building on our popular one-to-one music lessons, these sessions help students develop confidence, timing, communication, and real-world ensemble skills for exams, performances, or simply the enjoyment of making music together.

At Booths Music, many students enjoy learning not just how to play their instrument, but how to play with another musician. Building on our popular one-to-one music lessons — which we have been offering since 2007 — these collaborative sessions and accompaniment lessons give students the opportunity to develop the real-life musical skills that come from interacting with another player in person. While backing tracks can be useful, nothing compares to the experience of listening, responding, keeping time together, and making music live with another musician.
For some students, learning to play with another musician is especially valuable when preparing for GCSE performances, graded exams, or diploma recitals. An accompaniment lesson can help a pianist gain confidence supporting a singer or instrumentalist, allow a guitarist to rehearse with a rhythm player, or help a vocalist become more comfortable performing with live accompaniment rather than recorded tracks. Practising with a professional tutor allows students to develop timing, communication, musical awareness, and confidence in a supportive environment before their assessment or performance.
Adult learners often benefit from this approach too. Many people learn an instrument at home on their own and eventually reach the point where they would like to play with another musician for the first time. An accompaniment lesson with an experienced tutor can be a comfortable and encouraging step between solo practice and joining a band, ensemble, orchestra, or informal jam session. It helps build confidence while introducing important real-world musical skills such as following, listening, improvising, and adapting to another player.
These sessions can be tailored to many different styles and goals. Some students may want structured accompaniment lessons for classical exams, while others may simply want to enjoy playing popular songs, jazz standards, folk tunes, or acoustic arrangements together with another musician. Whether the aim is performance preparation, ensemble skills, or simply the enjoyment of shared music-making, learning to play with another musician can be both inspiring and motivating.
Based in Bolton, Booths Music continues to help students become confident, well-rounded musicians — not only as solo players, but as musicians who can perform and communicate naturally with others in a relaxed and enjoyable setting.
