Hiring an instrument is an excellent option for beginners, children starting lessons, school students and adults alike. It gives you the opportunity to learn, build confidence and discover whether an instrument is the right fit before making a long-term investment.
Choosing your first musical instrument can seem a big financial commitment, especially if you’ve never played before.
Our instrument hire service gives you the chance to learn on a quality instrument while taking the time to decide if it’s the right choice for you. Many of our customers hire an instrument for the first few months before purchasing one of their own once they feel confident and know exactly what they’re looking for.
If you’re taking lessons at Booths Music, we always encourage new students to consider instrument hire before buying. It allows you to focus on enjoying your lessons without the pressure of making an expensive purchase too soon. When the time comes to buy, both you and your tutor will have a much better understanding of which instrument best suits your playing style and musical goals.

To arrange instrument hire, simply browse our available instruments and send us an enquiry, give us a call or visit us in store. All instrument hire is arranged from our Bolton shop, where we can make sure the instrument is the right size and suitable for your needs, explain how the hire works and answer any questions before you take it home.
We believe collecting your instrument in person gives you the best possible start, allowing us to make sure everything is ready to play and ensuring you leave with complete confidence.

Every instrument available through our instrument hire service is carefully inspected, serviced and prepared by our experienced workshop before it leaves the shop.
A properly prepared instrument is easier to play, sounds better and makes learning much more enjoyable from the very first lesson. Should you ever need advice during your hire period, our knowledgeable team is always here to help.
Our musical instrument hire service is available to everyone – not just Booths Music students.

Following online, in-person or phone enquires, instrument hire is arranged in store. Unless the instrument requires a quick service in our workshop, rental should be fast and straight forward.
Payment is arranged in store in person with card details, usually at the point of instrument collection. A typical hire with us is charged on a monthly subscription, with a minimum hire purchase of 1 month.
A deposit is required, which will be refunded to you upon return and following a quick inspection of the instrument.
For rolling month to month contracts, you can return the instrument before your hire period ends at any point convenient to you and we will handle the termination of the hire subscription. If you decide to end the contract in your account dashboard, we ask you return the instrument on or before the end date. You have a two day grace period to return after the hire ends.
Wear and tear is part of any instrument’s journey, therefore small blemishes and replaceables (such as a string) will not incur charges. The deposit may be lowered or non-refundable if the instrument is returned significantly damaged and in need of repair.
