Saxophone Services

“Our saxophone services at Booths Music are carried out with care, precision, and many years of specialist experience. We provide comprehensive servicing for alto, tenor, baritone, and soprano saxophones, ensuring each instrument performs at its best, both mechanically and musically.”

Saxophone Services with Booths

All saxophone services begin with a thorough strip-down of the keywork. The necessary keys are carefully removed, allowing the saxophone body to be fully cleaned and de-greased. This process includes cleaning the tubing and soundhole rims, which is essential for maintaining tone quality, airflow, and long-term instrument health.

Once removed, each individual key is inspected and cleaned. During our saxophone services, pads may be revitalised where appropriate, and worn corks or felts are replaced. At this stage, the condition of the springs is also checked. Springs play a vital role in key response and reliability, and any that are weak, damaged, or fatigued are replaced to restore consistent action across the instrument.

A Precise Balance

Before reassembly, all rods, pivot points, and screws are carefully lubricated. This step is critical to ensuring smooth, quiet, and responsive key movement. During reassembly, pad seating is closely assessed and spring tension is adjusted for each key. The balance must be precise—not too strong and not too light—to achieve an even, comfortable feel throughout the full range of the saxophone.

A crucial part of our saxophone services is keywork regulation. Saxophones rely on complex linkages where multiple keys must operate together seamlessly. Precise regulation ensures that all keys close and open in perfect coordination, preventing leaks, uneven resistance, or delayed response. This fine balancing of the keywork is essential for accurate intonation, reliable articulation, and confident performance.

The Final Polish

Once regulation is complete, the saxophone undergoes a pressure and leak test to confirm airtight sealing across the instrument. A final polish completes the service, leaving the saxophone both mechanically sound and visually refreshed. The result is a saxophone that responds more easily, plays more consistently, and allows the musician to enjoy the instrument to its full potential.

"My six year old flute was beginning to sound breathy and it was getting hard to play top notes clearly (I thought it was me). Tony serviced my flute last week. It sounds like a brand new flute! It sings again 🎶. Tony replaced a faulty key pad and sorted out the cork mechanism which was moving around. Thank you so much. I’ll be back again next year for its next service"

"I am writing to thank you for your repair of my clarinet that my mum brought in for repair. My son had his first lesson today in New York State. I am thrilled with your repair - it feels even better that when my parents bought it for me back in 1984!! My son is so excited to learn. Thanks! Zoe"
